The city of Budapest is really two towns, separated by the river Danube: the town of Buda, and the town of Pest. This panoramic picture is taken from Buda, overlooking Pest. | |
|
The bridge in the foreground is the Elizabeth Cable Bridge. It was built in 1903 and at its time was the largest suspension bridge in the world. The bridge was destroyed in 1945 (another casualty of World War 2), was rebuilt and reopened for traffic in 1964. |
