This is one of the few still existing palaces on the island of Bali. Most of the palace was destroyed, but Bale Kerta Gosa (the "Consultation Pavilion") still exists. The Pavilion can be seen in this view in the middle of the pond. | |
In this Pavilion, the King sat on a chair with lions carved on its arms (symbolizing the ruler). Three high priests sat in chairs carved with holy cow heads. The ceiling of the pavilion is an amazing mural, painted in the puppet style of Kamasan, illustrating the Bima Swarga story from the Hindu Mahabharata epic. |
