	Pura Gunung Kawi, at Tampaksiring is an awesome site. The temple was built in the 11th century, as a memorial to King Anak Wungsu of the Warmadewa dynasty.
	You must first descend a long and steep flight of steps, knowing little about how awestruck you will be in just a few minutes.
	When you get to the bottom of valley floor and you look up, you gaze in disbelief at these gigantic 23-foot high carvings.
	These are not your average pretty stone carvings. The entire complex has been carved out of solid rock. The carvings are massive. You can not help but wonder at the amount of work and determination involved in transforming a solid rock face into this beautiful temple.
	The complex also includes niches, caves and enclosed rooms, also cut into the solid rock, that were once used as a Buddhist monastery.
