The last view from Uhuru Peak.
The glacier in the foreground is Furtwangler Glacier. To the left is the Great West Notch (some ascent routes use the Great West Notch). In the background we can see the Northern Icefields. To the right, the Reusch Crater.
The descent is not very glamorous. It is an endless slide in scree. Some people do it in "snowboarding" style. Some people do it in "skiing" stile. Other people do it by sliding 6-12 feet on each step. If you don't have enough confidence to do one of the above, it will take you FOREVER to descend. Whichever way you do it, you MUST NOT fall, because falling on volcanic rocks is NOT FUN. You will get hurt!

One more overnight in camp (Mweka Camp), another day of travel, and finally you will get to shower! (Bliss...) |
