Here is a view from the Ngorongoro Crater rim, looking inside the crater.
The crater is HUGE! It has a diameter of 19 kilometers (12 miles). The top of the rim is 600 meters (2,000 feet) above the crater floor. The crater itself is an awesome sight. But even more awesome is the life inside the crater.
There are about 30,000 animals inside the crater, all protected by law (as long as they stay inside the crater). There are even a few black rhinos, a very rare and very endangered animal. Sadly, the park rangers must train their telescopes on the rhinos 24 hours a day as poachers from other African countries are consistently trying to kill them. |
